COVID-19 Updates

At Downing & Lahey Mortuaries we are committed to serving local families during the most difficult of times. We continue to monitor local, state, and national guidelines concerning COVID-19 and it's impact on funeral service in Wichita. Our staff is working to ensure the health and safety of the families we serve.

Updated July 28, 2020

We are implementing the following public safety procedures to protect your family and our staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • We are closely monitoring the guidelines recommended by the CDC, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, the Sedgwick County Health Department, and the City of Wichita.
  • We remain open and available to serve you and your family 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our team of funeral professionals remains committed to doing what we do best - helping Wichita families plan funerals for their loved ones.
  • We are offering phone and virtual arrangement conferences to families choosing to stay home. If you feel comfortable coming to the mortuary, we are  happy to sit down with you in-person.
  • Ceremonies in our chapels are by invitation of the family only in order to adhere to social distancing guidelines.
  • Live Streaming is available for services in our chapels.
  • Video Recording is available for services in locations outside of our chapels (i.e. church or graveside services).
  • Enhanced hygiene practices and social distancing are in effect with our team.
  • All employees, families and guests are asked to wear a face mask while inside our building. We have masks available upon request.
  • Please be mindful of CDC guidelines to wash your hands often and refrain from handshakes and hugs at all gatherings.
  • We are in communication with our local churches, cemeteries, hospitals, and care facilites and will continue to adhere to any guidelines they have in place.

We continue to ask that those who are at risk, uncomfortable, or not feeling well stay home and reach out to the family through our online obituary pages. From a deceased's obituary, you may leave a note for the family using the "Tribute Wall."

If you have questions about attending services, please do not hesitate to contact us.

These guidelines will be in effect until further notice, and are subject to change as local and state mandates evolve.

If you have any further questions about how we are handling COVID-19 or how it might effect you, please give us a call at (316) 682-4553.
