Brown, The Honorable Wesley E., 104, passed away Mon., Jan. 23, 2012. A celebration of Judge Browns life is 10 a.m., Sat, Feb. 11, at College Hill United Methodist Church. Judge Brown served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy during WWII. He served as a Federal District Judge for nearly five decades. Among his awards were the 1998 Kansas Bar Associations Philip H. Lewis Medal of Distinction for outstanding and conspicuous service to the state and to the nation in the administration of justice; the 2000 Wichita Bar Associations Lifetime Achievement Award; the 2002 Judicial Council of the Tenth Circuits Lifetime Achievement Award; the 2007 Wichita Crime Commission Criminal Justice Professional of the Year Award; the 2008 Kansas Bar Foundations Robert K. Weary Award and also the 2008 Wichita State Alumni Associations Award of Distinction. Judge Brown was a long-time member of University Congregational Church. Preceded by wives, Mary Miller Brown and Thadene “Sis” Moore Brown. Survivors: two children, four granddaughters, and eight great-grandchildren. Memorials to: The Wichita Art Museum and Botanica, The Wichita Gardens. Downing Lahey Mortuary East.
