Roy Childs

Roy Childs, 99, Retired HVAC Serviceman, died Sunday, January 21, 2018. Roy was drafted February 24, 1941 and served at various locations in the States before going overseas. He arrived in France 28 days after the Normandy Invasion. He was wounded in the left arm at Mortain and shot in the left leg near Bastone while leading a night patrol on January 4, 1945. Roy received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Friday, January 26, 2018; Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, January 27, 2018, both at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Graveside Service will follow at 2:00 pm at Buffalo Cemetery, Buffalo, KS. Preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Norma Arlene Childs; parents, Ezra and Cora Childs. Survived by his children, William “Bill” (Susan) Childs of Irving, TX, Kay Lindsey of Ft. Scott, KS, Jane (William “Tex”) Jones of Wichita, KS; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren. A memorial has been established with: DAV, 926 N.
