Loren Huckstadt, 72, retired WSU Police Sergeant, passed away January 22nd after a courageous battle with Lymphoma. Loren served in the Marine Corps, and was a sharp-shooter, pilot, master gunsmith and historian. He graduated from Wichita State University in criminal justice and graduate studies in history. He earned numerous awards and certifications and was sought for his amazing knowledge of military history and weapons. Rosary will be at 9:30 am, Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am, Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Church of the Magdalen Catholic Church. The funeral mass will be Live Streamed and available to view through Church of the Magdalen's YouTube page. Graveside Service will be at 11:30 am, Friday, January 28, 2022, at Lakin Cemetery, Lakin, KS. Services in care of Downing and Lahey Mortuary – East Chapel.

  2. I first met Loren in 1978 working at the K-Mart that used to be at 21st and Oliver. I always enjoyed his dry sense of humor and razor sharp insights on life.

    I learned a LOT from him at a very impressionable age.

    I’m sorry that I’m just now seeing that he passed. The least I could’ve done was attend his funeral mass – if I’d known.

    Rest in peace, my friend. And thanks for the great convos we had when I was a much younger man.

  3. I just saw this. I had no idea Hucky had passed. I knew him from WSUPD, rode with him a lot, shared a lot of beers. He set me on my career path as an LEO. Go with God, Huck.
