Delma Rose Avery Hill

September 5, 1934 ~ October 24, 2024
Delma Rose Avery Hill passed away on October 24, 2024, at the age of 90 in Bel Aire, Kansas, of natural causes. Born on September 5, 1934, in Milo, Idaho, Delma's life was a testament to her unwavering faith, loving nature, and selfless dedication to her family and community. Married on July 23, 1952, Delma's journey through life was shared with her devoted husband and best friend, Newell K. Hill, with whom she enjoyed a loving marriage of 72 years. Together, they created a legacy of love and commitment that is carried on through their large and cherished family.
She was the proud mother to Rachelle (Richard) Smith, Nadine (Craig) Smith, Ronald (Letha) Hill, Steven (deceased) (Patricia) Hill, Kenneth (Ginger) Hill, and Deborah (Mike) Pearce. Her blessings multiplied and she greatly cherished 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. They each carry forth the values she set for them in her shining example. She is predeceased by her son Steven and great-granddaughter Whitney.
While raising her family, Delma was a foster mother to more than 30 children who found warmth under her care. Music was an integral element in her life and home, and she loved opportunities to dance with her husband. After raising her family, Delma worked for many years at Love Box Company and retired from a fulfilling career in the accounting department. Her attention to detail was a strength in her professional life. She loved hosting her large family for many holidays and a yearly family weekend.
She was deeply involved in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving her community through several significant church callings. Delma immensely enjoyed full-time voluntary service for the church in the Oklahoma City Temple for nine years, with four of those years serving as Assistant to the Matron. Through her unwavering service, she left a lasting impact on many lives, embodying the very essence of her faith-filled character and dedication to serving her Savior.
To say Delma led a full life would be an understatement; she crafted a life rich with meaning, finding joy in the every day and serving as a cornerstone of love and faith for all who knew her. Her constant demonstration of love extended beyond her family and friends, touching the lives of everyone she encountered with her kindness and generosity.
Delma Rose Avery Hill will be profoundly missed by those who had the privilege of knowing her. Yet, they take solace in the knowledge that her spirit-a gentle yet powerful force-will continue to guide and inspire even in her absence. Her legacy will flourish for generations to come.
A memorial service will be held on November 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 7011 East 13th Street, Wichita, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m.
Services in care of Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.
I have so many memories of going to the Hills. They were so good to treat me as one of their grandkids. The lake, treehouse, attic, tire swing, playing checkers, and more, are core memories and helped make my childhood so special and meaningful. I’m sorry to hear of Sister Hill’s passing. I send my love and gratitude for Brother and Sister Hill, and all the goodness they’ve added to the world.
