You seldom get the opportunity to ‘shop around’ unless you preplan. That didn’t work out so well for my parents who preplanned with another facility. This facility (Downing & Lahey Mortuary) I chose for my wife because of their community reputation and my personal experiences.

From the time Downing & Lahey came to the home to transport my father’s body to the mortuary through the follow-up calls after the services, deep respect and care for our entire family was demonstrated by all the employees. My dear mother suffered a lengthy illness before she passed away - all of her medical treatments had taken their toll on her body. Yet when I saw her at the viewing, I was amazed how young and stunningly beautiful she looked. The transformation was magical. Within 4 months both my uncle and aunt passed away and we were shown outstanding compassion and service. Being out of state they made the process very personal which I'm sure wasn't easy... I only wish Downing & Lahey were in Sterling, VA. I've used mortuaries in our area but have never experienced such compassion.
