Lawrence, Marguerite MarieLawrence, Marguerite Marie, 93, loving mother and aviation enthusiast, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2010. Having soloed in a J-3 Piper Cub in 1937, she went on to ferry planes from the Lock Haven, Pennsylvania Piper factory to Fairbury, Nebraska. She was active in the EAA, OX5 and Ninety-Nines aviation clubs, and a member of the Depression glass club. She was also a long time member of Countryside Christian Church and was active in Sunday school and senior activities. She was a devoted volunteer for Sun-N-Fun and Oshkosh Air Venture Fly-In’s, and the Kansas Aviation Museum. Preceded in death by husband Lt. Cmdr. R. Eugene Lawrence; son, Craig; granddaughter, Melinda; great granddaughter, Ava; parents, Frederick and Henriette Sonderegger; brothers, Frederick and Arnold. Visitation with the family will be 7-9 p.m., Sunday, February 21, at Downing & Lahey East. Service will be 1 p.m., Monday, February 22, at Countryside Christian Church, 1919 S. Rock Rd, Wichita, KS 67207. Memorials have been established with Countryside Christian Church; OX5-Kansas Wing; Kansas Chapter of Ninety-Nines and the Kansas Aviation Museum.

This is a note from National OX5 President George Vose to Harold Walter -- noting the organization's success plus Marguerite. She was a big part of its health, being a National Governor.
Harold. It seems that it shouldn't have happened. Last night I received your e-mail saying that Marguerite had passed away. Today I received a letter from her in her beautiful hand writing. It was written on February 8 and postmarked on February 9. Eight days en route, but not unexpected for this remote far SW Texas. She told of the February 6 Kansas Governor's meeting and the Wichita snow and ice. She wished me a "Valentine's Greetings". She enclosed a letter from Pat Griswold, daughter of Larry Bartell. It was a nice letter written when Pat was en route by airline to Arizona. Perhaps Marguerite has already shared the letter with you.
Marguerite said that she was enclosing the letter because it was easier than trying to explain OX5 affairs during EAA 2009. She said that "Sherry" Dewey enjoyed the Texas reunion. She mentioned that the Wisconsin Wing is now well represented with two Governors.
Pat said that she again would be volunteering at the OX5 display at Oshkosh. "Actually the new building is very nice but we got stuck back in the dark corner". They are trying to get a better spot next time.
The Pittsburgh Cliff Ball group is progressive, and personally I welcome that. The National OX5 is far better off than it was last year.
For the first time, I think, National is contributing money for Sun-n-Fun. If the Wisconsin Wing agrees I think they deserve some financial help at Oshkosh also.
I t was strange today to open a letter from a friend who passed away only a couple days ago. Everybody will miss Marguerite.
