Bob SterbensComing to terms with one's grief is a long process. Yet, like all journeys, it begins with a single step. In most cases that step is the funeral, so it's important the service be a true reflection of the individual and family involved.

As staff manager and one of Downing & Lahey's senior funeral directors, Bob Sterbens focuses his energies on making every service a very personal tribute. His compassion, along with his ability to listen and capture the true character of the deceased through a personalized funeral service has set many families on the path to healing.

Bob's approach to funeral planning and direction meshes well with Downing & Lahey's philosophy. In fact, it was Downing & Lahey's reputation for high standards and excellent service that drew Bob to the firm in 1992.

Outside of the office, Bob is active in both the community and the funeral industry. He is president and serves on the board of directors of the Kiwanis Club of Wichita — Downtown, as well as a member of the Downtown Kiwanis Foundation. He has also served as president of the Easy Come Easy Go Investment Club and is a member of the board of directors of the Kansas Funeral Directors Association.

Bob and his wife, Shirley, are active members of the First Church of the Nazarene. They have two children and an adopted Greyhound named Frannie.
