Boundless curiosity is a quality Brian Smith is quite proud of. It helps him learn — not only about his profession, but also about the families he serves. The insights he gains by asking questions and familiarizing himself with clients and their families are extremely valuable in funeral planning, and, because Downing & Lahey is a family-owned funeral home, Brian also appreciates the freedom to plan each service as a unique memorial.

Since joining Downing & Lahey in 1997, Brian's responsibilities have grown significantly. While he focuses on the preparation and care of the deceased, Brian also has become more involved in helping families make funeral arrangements. His sensitivity and genuine curiosity help him ask the right questions during the planning process, leading to more personalized services that help families heal after a loss.

Born and raised in Oakley, Kansas, Brian grew up with two brothers and two sisters. He places his wife, Kelley, and his family at the top of his list of priorities. In his spare time, Brian relaxes by golfing, fishing and playing the guitar.
